In The First...

The end of school is near! I will have to write either a persuasive essay, non-fiction essay, fantasy piece, or a personal narrative. This unit, I choose personal narrative because I really liked that unit, and I thought it was a lot of fun writing about things that have happened in my life. This topic is all about my gymnastic meet. Meets, games, or anything like that are scary, so hopefully you will get a lesson out of this piece.

Mercy Otis Warren

Can you guess who wrote politics to help people during the Boston Massacre? If you can’t guess it yet, here is another clue. Who had a brother who got hurt by the Loyalist enemies? Mercy Otis Warren is the one you are looking for! Have you ever heard of Mercy Otis Warren in your life before? I have never heard of such a name, and I thought what kind of person is this. Even though Mercy Otis Warren doesn’t seem like such an important person, after you read this you will understand everything about her life, and what makes her life so important. She made lots of differences in history and she made an affect and then that affect changed. During her life she also had some struggles. And finally, do you know how her life really felt like? Put yourself in her shoes to embrace some good times and bad times during her life. Continue to read to learn all about this amazing person.

Mercy Otis Warren was a very clever person. She made so many differences in history, and there was an effect and it changed. She is one very important historical person! Mercy Otis Warren made a difference by helping people by writing poems, plays, and satires (a literary genre comprising such compositions) during the American Revolution. By writing those kinds of pieces, she made people calmer and more confident during the revolution. To make sure she didn’t get in trouble, she didn’t write her name at the bottom of the page so the men on the streets couldn’t take her away because they didn’t know who wrote that writing. Mercy told some of her friends the secret, but not all people knew. Mercy also made a difference by expressing her feelings and that helped people because they know how she feels. One more way how she made a difference is by encouraging Massachusetts to become patriots. (a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country and its interests with devotions.) That helped a lot during the American. There was an effect, and it changed. How that happened was through Mercy’s writing. Her ideas influenced American patriots. Another one is, Mercy thought that taxes were too high, and workers got paid too little, so she made arguments through her writing. She also argued through her writing because women couldn’t go out onto battlefields and women were not allowed to write politics, so she argued, and in the end, it helped A LOT. Even though she was not allowed to write politics, she still did because she didn’t write her name on the bottom of that politic. You can see how Mercy made a difference in history, and also how there was an effect and it changed. Mercy is a good example, so you should follow in her steps.

Mercy Otis Warren also had struggles in her life just like we do. Her struggles were probably a lot worse though. Here are some struggles she had to face. Mercy’s brother is her very best friend. Her brother’s name is Jemmy, and he is the one who kept Mercy going. Jemmy was very supportive to Mercy, and that really helped until Jemmy got beaten by Loyalist enemies. Jemmy did heal, but he was still not going to act like a normal human being. It was very sad for Mercy, but she had to live through it everyday thinking about him. Another struggle was that the taxes were too high, and that the workers were paid way too little. It was really bad because Mercy’s family could not survive, and they were struggling. They didn’t have enough money to get food and other important things like that. Also Mercy was running out of money. Although Mercy did change this and now workers are paid good, it was still very hard back then. One more struggle is that she couldn’t help any more. The patriots wouldn’t buy the British goods and Mercy couldn’t help about that. It was hard because this was all during the Boston Massacre. Mercy wouldn’t be able to have freedom nor would others, and she needed to help lots of people  while helping herself. It was very hard for her. Those were some struggles she has in life. You can see that you probably wouldn’t be here, so lets be happy for what she did. Also, imagine how you would feel if you were Mercy Otis Warren. She had a hard life, so let’s be glad that our life isn’t like that.

Has your teacher ever said before, “Put yourself in your friends shoes?” And then when you got home, you went over to that friends house and literally put on their shoes? I don’t think that is what your teacher meant. Mercy Otis Warren was her own person, and nobody can actually be her. Unless you put yourself in her shoes. I learned SO much more from putting my brain (or feet) into her shoes (Or if she had some). I think you will get a lot more facts from her situation if you put yourself in her shoes. It was very interesting when I actually read and thought of what they were saying a little more deeper, so try to put yourself in her shoes and feel it like I did. First of all, Mercy’s brother got hurt, and that was a bad thing because Mercy’s brother, Jemmy, was her best friend, or you can call it, her important companion. Mercy had to deal with so much more. Some things were that she had double the trouble. She was all alone taking care of her whole family, and her Jemmy, who for the rest of his life be insane. Mercy will have to deal with A LOT more problems, and she will not be able to write as much as she wants to. Another thing that will be hard is the tragic thing that is happening to her and the town she is in, The Boston Massacre. Mercy wants to continue to write and help others, but she is struggling even to help herself. The town needs her, her family needs her, and she needs herself. Her family probably needs lots of supplies to get through this horrible time, but the workers were being paid too little, and the taxes were going up, so not just Mercy’s family was struggling. Mercy and her family were being treated harshly by the British way too much. So, how much did you learn from just putting yourself in her shoes. If you didn’t learn anything, then reread this paragraph, and think about how you would feel if your very best friend, or someone in your family was hurt, and could possibly die. Also, what if you were in this ‘Boston Massacre’. How would you feel if you could get hurt like Jemmy did, or if your mom or dad got hurt. It was not a fun time for anyone, so be glad that there are not things like that happening in your life.

Mercy_Otis_Warren.jpgSo, as you can see, Mercy Otis Warren (or just Mercy) had some pretty difficult times in her life going on, but other things were also good. You can see that Mercy Otis Warren did make some changes in life, and there was an effect and it changed. You can also see that Mercy had some struggles in life. Imagine if you had struggles like those. I don’t know if I could live her life. And, did you put yourself in her shoes? Once I put myself in her shoes, I got to read her life a little more deeper. I experienced a lot more than I thought she did in her life. Her life during the Boston Massacre was a very hard time, and she was very fortunate to be able to live. Can you believe that this actually happened? Be thankful that your life isn’t like that. Mercy Otis Warren isn’t as popular as Abraham Lincoln, or Pocahontas, or anybody like that, but she is important in life, and now you can see why.

My Grandma Does What?

What is a grandma? A lazy old lump on a log? No way! Grandma's are NOT like that at all! Well, if you want to know the truth, my grandma is up all day. She helps out people by doing this job. She is doing some job that you could probably could not guess at all. Before you read this, please write a comment below guessing what my grandma does for a living. Keep reading if you want to know all about my fantastic grandma. (Sounds a little weird, but in the end, you'll get everything.)

So, as I said, my grandma is up all day, and she helps out people by doing this job. Here is another clue. Once she makes these "things", they are DELICIOUS! Can you guess it yet. Here is one last clue. You usually make these "things" on birthdays! My grandma is… 5… 4… 3… 2… 1… a cake decorator! You probably least expected that. Well, this writing piece will be fairly short, but here is a little amount of facts of what my grandma does.

My grandma is a cake decorator as I wrote. She makes cakes that are one layer high, to 7 layers high. (I think.) My grandma is the one that makes cakes all the time, so my family doesn't have to buy a cake every birthday, and the cakes that my grandma make for me are for FREE!!!!! (Tee hee hee) My grandma doesn't just make cakes for me and my family, but she also makes cakes to sell to other people. (She has her own business.) She makes LOTS of wedding cakes, and they are all so beautiful!

Sorry this is so short, but this talks a little about my grandma. She is very nice, and I love her. Did you guess it right or not. Comment that down below too! In the end, I'm glad my grandma is my grandma, and I wouldn't want any other.

My Fantasy Writing

This is my fantasy piece, and I hope you enjoy reading it. It took a lot of effort to make this with all the planing for the story, making the pictures, and putting it onto FlipSnack to publish it to my blog. I was reading over this and I found out that I had some parts that don't make sense, so if you see something that doesn't look right, it is because I didn't fix it. I really liked doing the fantasy unit because it doesn't just mean we get to have fun with magic and all of that stuff, but it shows our creativity too! The thing that I was frustrated with was the part when we made the pictures. I was really confused, and I was always messing things up. Thankfully I got 4 pictures in, but if I was more in controlled, I probably could of gotten 6 pictures. I think that this wasn't one of my best pieces, but I wouldn't say that it was one of my worst. I hope you enjoy reading, and please comment saying what I should work on.

Picture Prompt - Rewind Or Pause Button?

I really like this prompt because it is a very hard decision for me with both of these to choose. I really would like to rewind my life because there are A LOT of things in my life that I would LOVE to change! I have said some pretty weird things back then, and I would love to be known of not saying them, but I would also like to pause my life. Since I found out I am moving, and I REALLY don't want to move, it would be awesome for me to pause my life! Now for my decision. I would choose the pause button. As much as I would want to choose the rewind button, I would rather choose the pause button. The reason why I would choose the pause button is because as I told you, I am moving.  After this upcoming summer, I have been in Singapore for 2 years. I have really enjoyed the warm heat, AMAZING adventures, and all the fun I have been having. I really don't want to go back because there are SO many things in Singapore that is a must do, that I haven't done yet. I really don't want to go back to the states because after this summer, I will never move back to Singapore again! Waaaahhh! A bad thing about pausing my life though is missing the snow. In Kansas (where I am moving to) it snows there, and I can't wait to get my sled and go sledding down the snow! I also am exited because all the stuff that was in storage, (there is A LOT of things in our storage) can finally be back in our house. All the games my family had was supposed to go with us, but instead the packers put it in storage, so we have none of our games. I can't wait to get to Kansas, and I really can't wait to pause my life if I could. I love Singapore, and I don't want to leave, so I am trying to make the best out of it, and maybe one of the must dos should to be able to pause my life. Ha ha, I can't, but I really wish I could.

P.S. if you have been to anywhere fun that you think that I should go to, please comment down below telling me what is your must do. Thank you!

My Non-Fiction Writing

On the Non-Fiction unit I choose the topic dolphins because they are my favorite animal, and I only know a little about them. That would be why I chose this topic.

I thought that this topic was simple, and that's why I really liked Non-Fiction. I also liked learning more facts about dolphins, and now I'm a dolphin pro. I did not like when we did pages though. I had too many facts, so it was really hard to cram it into 4 pages. (I'm glad that Mrs. Clayton let us do 4 pages instead of 2. I would of died.) I really hope that you like my piece because it took a lot of effort!

My Persuasive Essay

I thought that this persuasive essay is pretty good. After you read this, you will never ever in your life to smoke! It took some time to write this up, but it was worth it. If you have moms, dad, aunts, uncles, even friends who smoke, show them this because (I even say this in the essay) I really don't want people to smoke. You can help me to stop these smokers by reading this and telling the smokers all you learned in this essay. I hope you enjoy reading it!

I think that I did well on:
  • Not having an attitude on which people should or should not do.
  • Didn't say I hope I have convinced you, because I did convince you.
  • Talked about lot's of ways how you get the things that I'm talking about.

Some things that I could improve on:
  • Need to find more facts to fit my three reasons.
  • More ways to end my body paragraphs because they all end with "now you know why you should not smoke"
  • Find better descriptive words in my essay.

My Trip To The Science Centre Reflection

Today was a awesome day! Why? Because I got to go to the Science Centre! I did so many fun things, but here is one thing that I thought I should share with you! I went into the sound room and went through many fun things, but then I found this hall that lead to something, so I got exited. Vainavi and my mom were with me, so they both came along too!

We walked and walked and walked down this hallway filled with all sorts of different facts. I looked to one side, but then I had to look at the other side, (because there was so much things to see!) so it wasn't a quick walk down the hall. We curved around the hall and went straight and left and right, then finally got to another exhibit! It was a math exhibit! Both me and Vainavi walked around trying to find an interesting place to stop and read a sign about what the creation was and why it was important, but I couldn't find anything that grabbed my intention.
Then I came to this black thing that had a shape of a person. I looked on the front of it and it was a muscle man! I asked my mom if she could take a picture, and she did. I put my hair in front, so I would really look like that was me, instead of a plastic figure. I looked once more on the front of the muscle man, and he had math facts all around his body! (But math facts that people in Middle School do!) I peered over my moms shoulders and I saw my picture. Vainavi was laughing so hard, she almost fell down. I stared cracking up too! Then my mom looked at her watch and told us it was time to go, so we rushed out and that funny part of the day was over.

The thing that I learned.
I learned a lot of things, but one thing I learned was when you put a bowl over a speaker,  then you have to hear which bowl lets you hear the sound the loudest. It was between a big metal bowl, a small flat metal bowl, or a big plastic bowl. Before reading this, comment on which one you think it is. I thought that it was the small flat bowl, but it was the big plastic bowl. To me, I thought that was weird, but then I thought, now I know why. The sound waves bounced off of the of the metal bowl, and went through the plastic bowl.  I'm not so sure why, but I know that the sound waves bounced off of the metal, instead of the plastic.

Disqualified

Have you ever been to a swim meet and made the biggest mistake of your life? Well I have! If you are dying to know what happened, read this book! You will not believe that I made that big of a mistake! This book is not as good as my last book because I didn't have help with Mrs. Clayton, so just be aware that this is not as good as my last book The Big Drop!
I think that I described what some of the bad things (that happened in my story) deeply, but I can't tell you the bad things that happened, you have to find it out on your own! (by reading this story!) I think that I could also work on finding better words to replace the ones that I have said twice. But, I hope that you like this story and please comment on what you like and what you think that I should work on!

Have you ever been on a water slide that literary drops? What was your reaction when you were going down? Read this story to find out MY reaction, and find out if your reaction is similar to mine or not. Was my story the same as yours? Read this, then comment if you have ever been on a slide like this and write if your reaction is the same or not and what you did please? I hope that you like this story and enjoy!!! :)

Parent Blogging

Hi! This is Julia's mom and I will talk about my daughter Julia. Julia is my first. She has always been a joy since she was born! The moment she was in my stomach, she really lighted up my life! Julia is a sweet and smart girl. She is a blessing to our world! When I first saw her she was beauty to my eyes. She is determined to do anything, and doesn't give up! She can really make someone smile! Julia makes friends with everyone, and fills their bucket! She is one of those people that doesn't want to miss any homework, and fights with me to read with her at night! She loves to read adventure books and loves the series Choose Your Own Adventure

Julia loves to go on adventures herself! When we camping, Julia and her brother, sister, and cousins went down into the forest, and made a trail, then they came back talking all about what they had seen.   The 4 days we were camping, they kept on making more and more progress on the trail. It had really had impressed me!

Julia loves her family, but she also loves other stuff too like:

  • dolphins
  • the color light blue
  • going on family vacations
  • obstacle courses
  • her i-pod
  • games
  • gymnastic
  • baby-sitting
  • doing stuff on the computer
  • ice cream (or any deserts)
  • and water slides

Julia is great. I could talk about her more, but there is too much! I love Julia and she will always be my girl.

I would like Junie B. Jones as my best friend because Junie B. Jones is always active (I'm always active too!!!) and she is so funny! Last night I read a Junie B. Jones book called "Junie B. Jones Loves Handsome Warren" and she said a joke that made herself laugh like crazy and I would want to be in the book especially at that time because I would do the same thing. Living with Junie B. and her family would be the most hilarious thing that you would see! A baby brother that has a huge head and is a handful! A dog who drools a lot, two parents who do everything to keep the family in control (very hard work) a grandma and grandpa who try to do anything to make Junie B. happy and last but not least Junie B. The wild one. Who believes anything that somebody says such as older kids pouring chocolate milk on her head right before she gets on to the bus! To me it would be fun living in the life with Junie B. Jones! You would get on the bus and see her saving a seat for her best friend Grace and sometimes with wacky stuff on her or in her hands! At recess you would see Grace and Lucille, Junie B. Jone's other best friend and Junie B. playing horses. And in school you would see other very crazy stuff.

You would want to see what would aways happen next on every single page! Try reading Junie B. Jone's books and you will want to read every book! :)
